Hey guys! Today's video is a 'hot or not' review on a Snappy Towel!
Snappy Towels did send me this towel, but they are not sponsoring this video and I'm going to always give you guys my honest review, even if someone sends me something.
First off, I LOVE THIS TOWEL! Like, capital L-O-V-E, a million exclamation points, underlined, bolded, love it.
I didn't think I would like this as much as I do because the material is sort of like a chamois (swim shammy) and I really don't like chamois. I've tried one before, one of the Speedo ones that comes in a little tube, and I didn't like it at all.
But this one is also soft like a towel, so it's like a mix of both together, and it's really awesome!
This comes in pink, red, blue and orange, and it's about $35. Make sure to check the description box below for a link for this exact towel.
Let's dive into why I love this towel so much:
Since this is sort of like a chamois (aka swim shammy) it absorbs way more water than a normal towel would. I had a pre-lims finals meet last weekend and I used this all through pre-lims, wadded it in my bag in a little wad with my racing suit inside of it to dry it a little bit. Then at finals I took it out of my bag and I used it all through finals and it was still pretty dry.
So, I used it, I wadded it up with a wet suit in it, and then I used it for finals and it dried me off through the entire thing. This is a really great towel for that.
It does bleed when you wash it**. Not a big deal for me as I just washed it with some other meet towels that I have. But it did turn the white trim a little pink. You might not want to wash it with white socks.
This towel is called a Snappy Towel for a reason. It has a bunch of little snaps all around the towel so you can basically wear it in any way that you want.
You can wear it as a long cape. At the meet I was at there was a long hallway to the locker rooms so I put it on as a cape with my friend and went running down the hallway with the cape flowing in the wind behind me. So you can wear it like that if you just want to be weird.
You can also wear it as kind of a small cape-type top (poncho), which I liked doing after my races when I was wet.
And also when I put on my racing suits because it keeps you warm and covered while you're putting on your suit, which is pretty convenient because a lot of times when I'm changing I'll have a towel over my shoulders and it will keep slipping off because it's not snapped. But with this one just snap it in front and it stays on.
It can also be used as a skirt, which is my absolute favorite. It took me a lot of tries to figure out how to make it a skirt. I had some of my friends help me, and then we finally figured it out and it was like perfect. It fit me perfectly and I walked around the whole pool deck through the whole meet with my skirt on like :).
It can also be used as a body cover when you just put it underneath your arms. Now this didn't fit me. I tried using it with the snaps on the edges of the towel: too big. The snaps in the middle of the towel made it too small. So it really depends on your body size, the different types of things you can do with it. So if you're a little bit bigger or smaller it might work for you to do that. Also if you're a little bit bigger or smaller than me the skirt might not work for you.
I kind of wish it had a few more snaps, because it only has them on the edges and at the middle in four spots. So maybe they could put one in between so you have a little bit more options. I think if they put snaps right there, the body cover one would probably fit me.
If you snap the top two snaps together it can actually slide over a beach chair. Which can be really cool, because I know I always like to lay out a towel on a beach chair, but it always falls off while I'm sitting on it. So this one can slide over like a little chair cover and then it will stay on and it won't fall off, which I am so doing on my upcoming vacation! I'm so excited!
This towel is thin enough--it's not as thick and bulky as a usual towel--that I can use it really well for a hair turban. So, this worked really well for that. I wore it all the time. Usually at meets I won't even put my hair in a hair wrap because it just falls off because I usually bring really big towels to meets. So this one works really well for that.
Since it is so small and thin, and it can roll up really small, it fits really well in your bag without making it too bulky and heavy, which is really great because usually my bags when I go to swim meets are giant and heavy and they push down on my shoulders and it's probably not the best thing to do before a swim meet.
Also, since I love this so much, of course my sister loved this too. She kept trying to steal it from me before our races!
If you guys haven't guessed already, this is definitely a hot item. The links to this exact towel are in the description so please go check it out.
I will totally keep using this at meets. I've already used it at two different meets and I love it. I'm going to use it at the meet I have this weekend.
Let me know in the comments if you've tried one of these and found some other ways to use it. Thank you so much for watching this video. Please give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed this review, and subscribe to see my next video. Bye!

5 Travel Towel Life Hacks for Your Next Trip, Vacation or Cruise

Life Hacks for travelers. Travel Towel Life Hacks: 5 tips for your next trip, vacation or cruise with microfiber beach towels!

Here's a few tricks that will make your next resort holiday, hotel trip or cruise vacation more convenient and enjoyable, and save you some valuable luggage space, too. Our microfiber travel towels are much more than just towels. Life is too short for cotton!

We just spent a week at an all-inclusive resort in Cuba. It was beautiful! We spent most of the week at the beach or at one of the 5 swimming pools that this hotel had to offer. We also spent some time lugging around the heavy cotton beach towels provided by the hotel. They were fluffy and warm, but weighed a ton and were super bulky.

By the time we packed for the beach we had bags of sunscreen, hats, pool toys, sand toys, bug spray, water, goggles, snorkel gear, cameras, books, some extra clothes, and more. But the big hotel towels were half of the gear we carted around the resort. And this resort had a ton of stairs to climb, too. The towel exchange booth at the resort closed around 4:30, so the first long trip back to our hotel room carrying wet bulky cotton beach towels was the last one.

We upgraded to our Snappy Towels microfiber beach towels and microfiber travel towels and carried them instead, and here's why:

    1. We could fit all four microfiber towels into the bottom half of my snorkel gear bag, which was less space than just one bulky cotton hotel towel took. And there were more advantages beyond space and weight!

Snappy Towels microfiber beach towels are 1/4 the bulk of a cotton towel. They pack up as small as a shoe, but are big enough to use as a beach and swim towel. Plus they feel great on the skin.

Stop lugging around huge, heavy, bulky cotton towels. Wear a Snappy Towel microfiber beach towel instead!

    2. Snappy Towels can be fastened over the back of a lounge chair. This way they won't blow off or fall down, which is particularly annoying if there are puddles on the pool deck or you are trying to read and the towel is falling down over your face (or into your drink!).

Snappy Towels microfiber beach towels attach over the back of your chair so that they won't blow away or fall down.

    3. We used our towels to reserve the best spot by the pool. The rest of our group had no trouble finding which seats we had reserved!

Claiming our spot by the pool with a bright Snappy Towels microfiber beach towel snapped to the back of the chair!

Our spot by the pool, bright microfiber travel towel snapped onto the back of our chairs.

    4. To hang them up to dry quickly we just snapped the towels over the balcony railing. This way they were safe from blowing down, no clothes pegs required. It also added a bit of privacy to our hotel balcony. This is also a really handy way to not lose your towel on a sailboat, or to add some privacy to your bunk if traveling and staying in a hostel dorm.

Microfiber Travel Swim towels snapped to balcony railing so that they can dry quickly without blowing away or needed clothes pins. Also great in a hostel or on a boat.

    5. The nylon hanging loop on each towel made them really easy to hang up. I used this to reserve a spot on the beach, and it's an easy way to hang them to dry when there's a hook but no railing or line.

Claiming my spot at the beach early in the morning. The convenient nylon hanging loop on each microfiber beach towel makes for easy hanging on any hook.

How to Choose The Best Towel: Microfiber, Cotton, Chamois?

Microfiber beach towel review: how to choose the best towel for beach, swimming, travel, surf, sport, SUP or vacation?

We've all grown up with the usual cotton towels at home, but if you've been involved in sports like swimming, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), scuba diving, water polo, kayaking or backpacking you've probably come across many different kinds of sports towels, gym towels, and other technical towels, and even yoga towels and compact travel towels. In this article we explain some of the different towel fabrics and materials, why they are used for towels, and how to choose the best towels for your needs, whether it be for swimming, travel, camping, sports, or just some hi-intensity lounging by the beach or pool.

    Cotton Towels

Hotels towels and spa towels are usually cotton towels because of the luxury and comfort they offer, and because compactness and portability are not factors here. Cotton is cheaper to replace and can be bleached over and over, which most synthetic fibers can't handle. Regular household towels are made of cotton and woven into terry (aka terrycloth) which means a fabric of tiny loops similar to a rug, but two-sided.

Beach towels are usually made of velour, which is simply a terrycloth cotton towel with the loops sheared off of one side. They are less puffy (more compact) than full terrycloth, and the sheared flat side is useful for printing designs on.

The drawback with cotton towels at the pool, gym or when traveling is that they get very heavy when wet (and cold) and take a long time to dry (the ability to hold water is why we use cotton for toweling, so dry time is a bit of a Catch 22).  Another drawback with terrycloth cotton beach towels is that they can pick up a lot of sand, even with velour, because the loop side is used down on the sand.

    Chamois Towels (Shammies)

Now, at the extreme other end of high-performance sports towels, you may have noticed divers in the Olympics using chamois towels. 'Chamois' refers to the type of fabric (the weave), and come in a soft felt-like finish (chamois or shammy) or a smoother finish.

One drawback with chamois towels is that they feel like you are rubbing yourself with wet blue jeans, and are not big enough to wrap up in like other towels, so have no value in keeping you warm other than to dry you off. If you are a diver or are into ultra-lightweight camping, a chamois towel might be the best towel for you due to its size and the fact that they dry off pretty quickly when wrung-out. They are strictly functional, however, so don't expect this to be anyone's favorite towel around the pool at home.

The actual material used in a chamois (shammy) towel is PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) which must be kept wet between uses, and so are sold in plastic cases. If too dry, they turn into a brittle cardboard-like texture, and if put away too wet, they will grow mildew. They are small, which makes them portable, but once inside their plastic carrying case they are no smaller than most microfiber towels.

Microfiber Beach Towels and Travel Towels

Microfiber beach towels for kids and large microfiber beach towels for adults

Microfiber towels are made of microfiber, which actually refers to any fiber which is smaller than the diameter of a silk thread. Microfiber towels are usually made of a polyester/polyamide (aka Polyester/Nylon) blend. There are numerous advantages of these fibers over cotton and PVA, which we'll go into in another post. As for toweling, the biggest reason why polyester/polyamide microfiber is used is due to its absorbency, which is a result of the material and the actual structure of the microfiber which gives it an enormous surface area, i.e. a very large absorptive surface in which to interact with water.

There are many different weaves or materials made from microfiber. One is suede microfiber which is smooth like the chamois mentioned above. Even in a bigger towel, smooth microfiber feels uncomfortable to use. Many people can't get past the feel, even though suede microfiber towels are compact and very portable. A full-sized bath towel or beach towel made from suede microfiber can fold up to about the size of a novel, so it's excellent for traveling if you can get used to the feel of it.

Microfiber thread can also be woven into terrycloth. This is a kind of hybrid towel because you have the absorptive properties of a microfiber woven into puffy, comfy loops like a traditional cotton towel. These are nice to use at home, but most aren't any better than a cotton towel if you are travelling, going to the pool, the gym, or the beach, etc. because terrycloth takes up a lot of room and doesn't fold into a compact space no matter what you weave it from.

Best microfiber towel for swimming, beach or travel

    Textured Microfiber Towels

We've chosen to make our microfiber swim towels and microfiber beach towels from a textured waffle weave microfiber. This is the same polyester/polyamide blend microfiber that other swim, gym, travel and compact towels use, but with a texture to it. Waffle weave microfiber feels a lot like a traditional cotton towel because of this texture but is still compact because it's not made of terrycloth loops.

Waffle weave microfiber will give you a good comfy rub and also has enough thickness to make a comfy wrap, which is especially good if you are wearing the towel! Plus, it's sand-resistant, which is great for the beach or camping and makes a great surf towel.

A full-sized microfiber beach towel can fold up to about the size of a novel, so makes a great travel towel, but one that you'll actually be happy to use once you get where you're going because of the comfort it offers.

So there you are: the spectrum of towels from tiny and utilitarian to huge and fluffy; your 'just right' towel is in there somewhere, depending on your needs.
